Penguins Sign Goaltenders Adam Berkhoel And Curtis Darling

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have signed goaltenders Adam Berkhoel and Curtis Darling, it was announced on Friday by Pittsburgh Penguins Assistant General Manager Chuck Fletcher.

Berkhoel, 27, appeared in 31 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL) last season, posting a 10-14-4 record with one shutout and a 2.93 goals against average. A former eighth round draft pick by the Chicago Blackhawks (240th overall in 2000), Berkhoel has appeared in nine NHL games during his four-year career (all with the Atlanta Thrashers), going 2-4-1 with a 3.80 goals against average.

Penguins 2008-09 Promotions Schedule

WILKES-BARRE, PA - Bobbleheads, jersey cards, team calendars and all-star posters will be among the premium items available during the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 10th season, it was announced on Monday. There will be 20 giveaway nights in all, up from 16 during the 2007-08 season.

In addition, several holiday and group theme nights will be on the schedule, which gets underway on Wednesday, October 8 against the Hershey Bears.

“These items are a small way to say thanks to the most faithful fan base in the American Hockey League,” said team president Rich Hixon. “We are very excited about our 10th year in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and are hoping to make this the most memorable season yet.”

Penguins Announce Preseason Schedule

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will play a four game preseason schedule in preparation for the 2008-09 season, it was announced on Friday.

Pittsburgh Penguins Re-Sign Dave Gove, Sign Danny Richmond

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed center Dave Gove, it was announced on Tuesday by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero. Additionally, the Penguins have signed defenseman Danny Richmond to a one-year contract.

Gove, 30, was acquired by Pittsburgh from the Carolina Hurricanes for Joe Jensen on January 31, 2008. He appeared in 36 regular season games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last season, recording 22 points (15 goals, seven assists) and 10 penalty minutes. He led the team with three short-handed goals.

Penguins Sign Reid Cashman

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have signed defenseman Reid Cashman to an American Hockey League contract, it was announced on Thursday by Pittsburgh Penguins Assistant General Manager Chuck Fletcher.

Cashman, 25, split last season between the Toronto Marlies (AHL) and the Columbia Inferno (ECHL). He posted three assists and eight penalty minutes in eight games with the Marlies, and 27 points (5+22) and 60 penalty minutes in 41 games with the Inferno.

Penguins Re-Sign Taffe, Filewich and Bissonnette

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Jeff Taffe to a one-year contract, it was announced today by Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.

Taffe, 27, played 45 games for the Penguins during the 2007-08 season, scoring 12 points (five goals, seven assists) along with eight penalty minutes. He made his season debut with the team on December 20th vs. the Boston Bruins. Taffe scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win vs. the Montreal Canadiens on January 19th. He registered a four-game point streak from February 23rd to February 28th, scoring five points (two goals, three assists). Taffe matched a career-high with two points (one goal, one assist) on February 26th vs. the New York Islanders.

The native of Hastings, Minn., was originally chosen by the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the 2000 NHL draft.

In 145 career games with the Penguins, the Phoenix Coyotes and the New York Rangers, Taffe has 20 goals and 20 assists.

Penguins Acquire Richmond from Chicago

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired the rights to defenseman Danny Richmond from the Chicago Blackhawks for the rights to center Tim Brent, it was announced on Thursday by Assistant General Manager Chuck Fletcher.

Richmond, 23, split last season between the Blackhawks and Rockford IceHogs (AHL). He was scoreless in seven games with Chicago, and recorded 14 points (2+12) and 156 penalty minutes in 40 games with Rockford.

Penguins acquire rights to defenseman Richmond

PITTSBURGH (AP) -The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired the rights to defenseman Danny Richmond in exchange for the rights to Tim Brent on Thursday.

The 23-year-old Richmond appeared in seven games with the Chicago Blackhawks last season. He had two goals and 12 assists in 40 games with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

The Chicago native was originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2003 draft.
