Amerks Moose Is Out And About This Weekend

(Rochester, NY)… The Rochester Americans’ mascot, The Moose, has a busy weekend ahead of him as the Amerks’ furry friend will spend the next three days in the Rochester community as he continues his “Moose is on the Loose” campaign. The weekend begins on Friday, August 1st at the IHOP in Henrietta (556 Jefferson Rd.) for Family Fun Night. Moose will be on hand to greet families and sign autographs from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Moose will make the next stop on his itinerary on Saturday, August 2nd at Rochester’s annual Park Ave. festival. Fans can see him from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. mingling among the crowd and giving high-fives outside the Wilson Farms store located at 622 Park Ave.

Moose acquire Matt Stephenson

The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, announced today they have acquired defenceman Matt Stephenson from the Iowa Chops of the American Hockey League.

Stephenson, 24, appeared in five games with the Iowa Stars last season where he collected two penalty minutes. He also played in 40 games with the St. Cloud State Huskies where the senior had two goals and nine assists for 11 points and 46 penalty minutes. Stephenson also served as Huskies team captain in the final season of his four-year career at St. Cloud State. In 141 career games with the Huskies, the Midland, ON native scored seven goals and 44 assists for 51 points and 159 penalty minutes.

Moose to Visit Mall at Greece Ridge Center Tonight

(Rochester, NY)… The Rochester Americans mascot, The Moose, will make his sixth stop on the “Moose is on the Loose” tour tonight as he visits The Mall at Greece Ridge. The Amerks’ furry friend will attend the Family Fun Night (West Ridge Rd.) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The Moose continues his four-month adventure throughout Rochester and will make future stops at local businesses, parks, recreation centers and sporting events as he prepares for the 53rd season of Amerks hockey in 2008-09.

Moose sign Jordie Benn

The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, announced they have signed defenceman Jordie Benn to an American Hockey League contract.

Benn, 21, played in 60 games last season with the Victoria Grizzlies of the BCHL where he scored 15 goals and 32 assists for 47 points and 78 penalty minutes. The Victoria, BC native also scored eight powerplay goals and had a pair of game-winning goals. At the end of the season, he was named the Grizzlies Most Valuable Player as well as their top defenceman

Moose Sign Scott Howes

The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, announced they have signed forward Scott Howes to an American Hockey League contract.

Howes, 20, appeared in 59 games last season in the QMJHL with the Saint John Sea Dogs where he scored 42 goals and 28 assists for 70 points and 60 penalty minutes. He ended up second in scoring with the Sea Dogs. In 14 post-season games with Saint John, the Toronto, ON native scored 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points to finish fourth overall in QMJHL playoff scoring. He also played in seven games with the Drummondville Voltigeurs, where he scored a goal and five assists for six points. In his three seasons in the QMJHL, Howes played in 113 games with the Voltigeurs and Sea Dogs. In that time, he scored 68 goals and 50 assists for 118 points and 128 penalty minutes.

Moose sign Karl Goehring

The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, announced they have signed goaltender Karl Goehring to an American Hockey League contract.

Goehring, 29, appeared in 26 games last season with the Syracuse Crunch where he posted a 2.12 goals against average, a .930 save percentage, with a 15-8-2 record as well two shutouts. The Apple Valley, MN native was named the AHL’s Goaltender of the Month for March after going 7-0-1 in eight games with a 1.59 goals against average and .951 save percentage. During that period, he was named the AHL’s Player of the Week for the week ending March 2/08. In the post-season, Goehring helped the Crunch eliminate the Moose in six games, and posted a 7-6 record throughout the playoffs with a 2.39 goals against average and a .922 save percentage.

Moose extend affiliation with Salmon Kings

The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, today announced an extension to their developmental affiliation agreement with the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL. The agreement is a one-year extension that will see the Moose and Salmon Kings work together for the third season in a row in order to develop players within the Canucks organization.

The Moose and Salmon Kings originally entered into their affiliation agreement, along with the Vancouver Canucks back on July 18, 2006.

Moose reveal 2008-09 opponents

The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, today announced they will face 17 different opponents in 2008-09, including plans to renew rivalries with three Eastern Conference opponents - the Hartford Wolfpack, the Manchester Monarchs, and the Providence Bruins.

The full and complete 2008-09 Manitoba Moose and American Hockey League schedules will be released in the near future.

The Moose will once again face their North Division opponents such as the Grand Rapids Griffins, Hamilton Bulldogs, Lake Erie Monsters, Rochester Americans, Syracuse Crunch, and Toronto Marlies. As usual, the Moose will also play each member of the AHL’s West Division which includes the Calder Cup Champion Chicago Wolves, the Houston Aeros, the Iowa Stars, the Milwaukee Admirals, the Peoria Rivermen, the Quad City Flames, the Rockford Ice Hogs, and the San Antonio Rampage. The exact number of games against the opponents is still to be determined.

Moose re-sign Mike Keane

The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, today announced they have re-signed captain Mike Keane to an American Hockey League contract. As a result, the Winnipeg, MB native will return for a fourth season with the Moose and his 21st season in professional hockey.

In his third season as Moose captain last year, Keane, 41, appeared in 73 games where he scored eight goals and eight assists for 16 points and 36 penalty minutes. In six Calder Cup playoff games last year, Keane collected six penalty minutes. At the end of the year, he was named the winner of the team’s Toyota Never Quits Hardest Working Player award. Back in 2006-07, he was the recipient of the American Hockey League’s Fred T. Hunt Award for sportsmanship, determination, and dedication to the game of hockey. He appeared in 74 games with the Moose that season where he scored eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points and 46 penalty minutes. Keane was also selected as the captain of the Canadian team at the 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic in Toronto, ON. In 2005-06, Keane scored three goals and 14 points in 69 games with the Moose and was named co-winner of the team’s Julian Klymkiw Award for community service. As a result, Keane has scored 19 goals and 36 assists for 55 points and 148 penalty minutes in 216 games with Manitoba. In 31 Calder Cup playoff games with the Moose in three seasons, he has four goals and three assists for seven points and 17 penalty minutes.

Moose Ink Derlago

Winnipeg, Manitoba — The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, announced they have signed forward Mark Derlago to an American Hockey League contract.

Derlago, 22, played in four games with the Moose after signing a PTO on March 18/08. In that time, he scored two goals and three assists for five points and two penalty minutes playing with leading scorer Brad Moran and Jannik Hansen. He scored his first goals in the AHL March 25/08 at Lake Erie. The Brandon, MB native also played in 68 games this regular season with the Condors where he lead the team with 39 goals. He also had 18 assists for 57 points and 65 penalty minutes. In six ECHL post-season games with Bakersfield this season, Derlago had two goals and four assists. In 271 caree r games with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL, Derlago scored 112 goals and 95 assists for 207 points and 173 penalty minutes. Derlago missed the entire 2004-05 season after suffering a neck injury in 2004. He then came back to lead the WHL in goal scoring in 2006-07 with 46 goals and his 81 points finished 10th in the league in overall scoring.
