Flames Prospects to Compete in Pre-Season Rookie Tournament

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames prospects will start their 2008 training camp with a two game rookie tournament against the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks in Camrose, AB. The three team tournament, hosted by the Oilers, will occur from Sunday, September 14 to Tuesday, September 16 at Encana Arena in Camrose’s newly opened Edgeworth Centre.

Flames prospects will report to Calgary on September 10 and participate in the Flames Annual Charity Golf Classic on September 11. Fitness testing for the rookies gets underway on September 12 followed by the first on-ice session scheduled for September 13 at the Pengrowth Saddledome. Complete details of the Flames main training camp will be announced later this month.

Jordan Kelsey Joins Flames Staff

Moline, IL- The Quad City Flames announced today Jordan Kelsey has joined the team’s front office as Director of Ticket Operations. Kelsey joins the team after spending the last two years in the front office of the National Basketball Association’s Golden State Warriors. Kelsey’s role with the Flames will include overseeing season, group and individual ticket sales. He will work to generate new ticket sales while also working to retain current ticket holders.

Flames Sign Free Agent Forward Andre Roy

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today the signing of forward Andre Roy.

“Andre is a player with a Stanley Cup championship, who provides us with a dimension that is still important in the league,” said Sutter. “It was our goal to replace that aspect on our team and we felt it was better to do it now than to trade for it as we go into camp.”

Flames Re-Sign Defenseman Adam Pardy

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today the signing of defenseman Adam Pardy.

In 65 games with Quad City of the American Hockey League during the 2007-08 season, the 6′4″, 220lb rearguard recorded 5 goals and 13 assists for 18 points while accumulating 67 penalty minutes. Pardy was recalled by the parent club on two occasions last year; however, he did not see any NHL action.

Flames Announce 2008-2009 Schedule

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Flames announced today their 2008-09 regular season schedule. Calgary kicks-off the ‘08-09 campaign with back-to-back games against divisional rival Vancouver Canucks. The Flames open their season on the road in Vancouver on Thursday, October 9th and then face the Canucks again in the Flames home opener on Saturday, October 11th at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

The Flames’ annual New Year’s Eve home game has Calgary hosting the Edmonton Oilers in the Battle of Alberta at 8:00 PM at the Pengrowth Saddledome. The Christmas schedule includes home games against Florida (December 12th), Chicago (December 19th), Anaheim (December 23rd), Ottawa (December 27th) and Minnesota (December 29th).

Flames Fever…it’s spREDing

Moline, IL- The Quad City Flames today unveiled the team’s marketing slogan for the 2008-09 hockey season. “Flames Fever…it’s spREDing!” will be used to promote the team throughout the year in promotional campaign and during community appearances.

“We feel that this slogan captures the excitement that the Flames organization is feeling in anticipation of the 2008-09 season,” said Flames Chief Executive Officer Neil Bossola. “There is a contagious energy that is spreading amongst our fans and our organization, and we know that energy will spread throughout the community as we get closer to the season.”

Calgary Flames sign free agent forward Todd Bertuzzi to contract

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames signed free-agent forward Todd Bertuzzi to a US$1.95-million, one-year contract on Monday.

The six-foot-three, 231-pound forward had 14 goals and 26 assists in 68 games last season for the Anaheim Ducks.

“Todd is a proven scorer with the ability to play both wings,” Flames general manager Darryl Sutter said in a release. “He expressed to us that he wanted to play in Canada and that desire along with signing him to a one-year deal was important to our philosophy. He wanted to play on a good team and it fit our money. Additionally, our captain, Jarome Iginla, was a strong supporter of Todd and wanted him on our team.”

Flames Visit Quad City Summerfest

Moline, IL- The Quad City Flames announced today that staff members and Firestorm, the Flames mascot, will be visiting the inaugural edition of the Quad City Summerfest this weekend at John Deere Commons in downtown Moline. The Flames will be on hand on Friday and Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on both days.

Firestorm will be making friends and taking photos throughout the event. Firestorm trading cards will also be available for fans. Flames staff members will have information on 2008-09 tickets and the Modern Woodmen Kids Club. There will also be information on try-outs for team mascot and energy team.

Flames Sign Free Agent Defenseman Ryan Wilson

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today the signing of free agent defenseman Ryan Wilson.

“Ryan is an undrafted player who has followed the same path as other defensemen like Mark Giordano and Richie Regehr”, said Sutter. “He is a Tom Webster (Flames Scout) recruited player. Tom has had success in identifying such players for our organization.”

Wilson, a native of Windsor, ON, led all OHL Defensemen in scoring last season while playing for the Sarnia Sting netting seven goals and 64 assists for 71 points in 58 games. It was the second consecutive season in which Wilson was the points leader amongst all OHL rearguards. Over the past two seasons, Wilson has been Sarnia’s captain and was recognized as one of the OHL’s hardest hitting defensemen by the annual coach’s poll. He was named to the 2006-07 Western OHL All-Star Team and has played in the playoffs all five years of his OHL career. The 6′1″, 205 lb blue-liner has played internationally, capturing a World Under-17 Championship as a member of Team Ontario in 2004.
