Senators Sign Defenseman Geoff Waugh

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today the signing of defenseman Geoff Waugh to a one-year, two-way contract.

In 2007-08, Waugh appeared in 71 games for the B-Sens, recording six points (three goals, three assists) and 139 penalty minutes.

The 24-year-old Winnipeg native was a third-round choice (78th overall) of the Dallas Stars in the 2002 National Hockey League entry draft. His four-year collegiate career saw him miss only four regular-season games while playing for the Northern Michigan University Wildcats from 2002 to 2006, when he tallied four goals and added 34 assists in 158 career games.

Flames Re-Sign Defenseman Adam Pardy

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today the signing of defenseman Adam Pardy.

In 65 games with Quad City of the American Hockey League during the 2007-08 season, the 6′4″, 220lb rearguard recorded 5 goals and 13 assists for 18 points while accumulating 67 penalty minutes. Pardy was recalled by the parent club on two occasions last year; however, he did not see any NHL action.

Penguins acquire rights to defenseman Richmond

PITTSBURGH (AP) -The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired the rights to defenseman Danny Richmond in exchange for the rights to Tim Brent on Thursday.

The 23-year-old Richmond appeared in seven games with the Chicago Blackhawks last season. He had two goals and 12 assists in 40 games with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

The Chicago native was originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2003 draft.

Columbus Blue Jackets Re-Sign Defenseman Aaron Rome

Syracuse, NY (July 18, 2008) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed defenseman Aaron Rome to a one year two-way NHL and American Hockey League contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Rome, 24 appeared in 55 combined games with the Crunch and Portland last season, registering 5 goals, 24 assists and 157 penalty minutes. He also skated in 17 games with Columbus last year, tallying 1 goal, 1 assist and 33 penalty minutes. During his career, Rome has played in 270 career AHL games with Cincinnati (Mighty Ducks), Portland and Syracuse, notching 20 goals, 74 assists and 513 penalty minutes.

Wolf Pack Ink Defenseman David Urquhart

HARTFORD, July 17, 2008: Hartford Wolf Pack general manager Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the Wolf Pack have signed defenseman David Urquhart to an American Hockey League contract.

Urquhart, 23, completed a four-year career at McGill University in Montreal this past season, compiling totals of seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points, along with 75 penalty minutes, in 39 games. The Thorold, Ontario native captained the 2007-08 Redmen to the Ontario University Athletics championship, the first league title captured by McGill since 1946.

Syracuse, NY (July 16, 2008) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed defenseman Marc Methot and forward Alexandre Picard and signed forward Steve Kelly to one year two-way NHL-American Hockey League contracts. As per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Methot, 23, appeared in 66 games for the Crunch last season, registering 7 goals, 6 assists and 130 penalty minutes. He also skated in 9 games with Columbus last year, collecting 8 penalty minutes. In three seasons with Syracuse, he has appeared in 195 games, notching 10 goals, 32 assists and 263 penalty minutes. Methot has also skated in 29 games with Columbus over that span, collecting 4 assists and 20 penalty minutes.

Blues Sign Defenseman Mike Weaver

ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has signed free agent defenseman Mike Weaver.

Weaver, 30, played in 55 games last season with the Vancouver Canucks, registering one assist, 33 penalty minutes and a plus-one rating. The 5-9, 182-pound defenseman has played in 204 NHL games, recording 25 points (three goals, 22 assists) along with 93 penalty minutes.

The Bramalea, Ontario native was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Thrashers on June 15, 2000.

Senators Sign Defenseman Brendan Bell

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today the signing of defenseman Brendan Bell to a one-year, two-way contract.

Bell played last season with both the Phoenix Coyotes and their American Hockey League affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. In 69 games with the Rampage, he scored seven goals and added 24 assists for 31 points while recording 80 penalty minutes. He recorded no points in two games with the Coyotes.

First of all, I want to say congratulations on your recent contract renewal. It’s great to have you back and I’m sure you’re pretty excited. What’s your reaction to your new two-year deal?

I’m thrilled. I’m so excited to be coming back to Carolina’s organization. It’s the end of the year, I knew I was going to be a free agent when my contract is up, but there’s nowhere else I wanted to go except back with Carolina. To be able to get a deal done and get re-signed back there for two years is tremendous.

Coyotes sign defenseman David Hale

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -Defenseman David Hale signed a two-year contract Thursday with the Phoenix Coyotes after spending last season with the Calgary Flames.

Hale had two assists and 46 penalty minutes in 58 regular-season games last season. He also appeared in six playoff games with the Flames.

The 27-year-old Hale has 11 assists and 175 penalty minutes in 215 career NHL games with New Jersey and Calgary.

The Coyotes also re-signed defenseman Matt Jones to a two-year contract.
