Senators Sign Netminder Jeff Glass

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today the signing of goaltender Jeff Glass to a one-year, two-way contract.

Glass, 22, played in 46 games with the B-Sens last season and posted a 15-20-4 record with a 2.88 goals-against-average and .913 save percentage. Glass set new career highs in games played, wins, shutout victories (two), goals-against average and save percentage. He also recorded a career-best 46 saves in a 5-2 home loss to Springfield on April 5.

Bertani Named Sound Tigers Assistant Coach

Bridgeport, Conn. - New York Islanders general manager Garth Snow has announced the hiring of Matthew Bertani as assistant coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the Islanders’ American Hockey League affiliate. Bertani will join head coach Jack Capuano and assistant coach Pat Bingham, assisting in video analysis for the upcoming 2008-09 AHL season.

“I am looking forward to this exciting opportunity that Garth Snow, Howard Saffan, and Jack Capuano have provided me,” Bertani said. “To join an organization with such a rich history is really an honor. “I look forward to helping the coaching staff put a winning product on the ice.”

Jozsa and Lemieux Return to Griffins

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins on Monday announced the signings of defenseman Jason Jozsa (JOH-sa) and right wing Francis Lemieux (leh-M’YOO) to American Hockey League contracts.

Jozsa, 27, appeared in an AHL career-high 25 games between Grand Rapids (23) and Quad City (2) last season, counting his first AHL goal among his six points (1-5-6) scored as a Griffin. After also registering 30 points (2-28-30) in 49 regular season contests with ECHL Las Vegas, the native of Calgary, Alberta, helped lead the Wranglers to the Kelly Cup Finals, contributing 10 points (4-6-10) in 21 playoff contests to place second among Las Vegas defensemen and seventh among ECHL blueliners.

Houston Aeros seek National Anthem singers for 2008-09 season

HOUSTON, Texas - The 2008-09 Houston Aeros hockey season is just around the corner. The regular season schedule is coming out very soon and the players will converge for training camp before we know it. Besides roster spots, the Aeros are also looking to find National Anthem singers!

Bruins Sign Thompson, St. Pierre

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, the 2007-08 regular season points champions of the American Hockey League, today announced that the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins have signed centers Nate Thompson and Martin St. Pierre. Per club policy, the terms of the contracts will not be disclosed.

Thompson, 23, will continue his professional career in the Bruins organization after being drafted by Boston 183rd overall in the sixth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. The forward turned pro in 2004-05 following his fourth junior season with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. Since, Thompson has played in 220 regular season games, all but four in Providence, notching 35 goals and 45 assists for 80 points and 215 penalty minutes along the way. His other four games came in a Boston sweater during the 2006-07 season, going scoreless in four separate one-game call-ups.

Admirals Sign Center Pete Zingoni and Goaltender Mike McKenna

NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals have signed center Pete Zingoni and goaltender Mike McKenna to AHL Standard Player’s Contracts for the 2008-09 season, Admirals General Manager Mike Butters announced today.

“Peter was a guy who was fairly high on our radar this summer,” said Butters. “His grit and determination as a player is something that we wanted more of in our organization this year. We expect Peter to play a prominent role with us from Day 1.”

Boston Bruins sign forwards Martin St. Pierre and Nate Thompson

BOSTON - The Bruins have signed restricted free-agent forwards Martin St. Pierre and Nate Thompson.

Boston acquired St. Pierre’s rights from the Chicago Blackhawks in a trade for Pascal Pelletier last week. The 24-year-old St. Pierre played in five NHL games last season and spent time with the Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate in Rockford, Ill.

The 23-year-old Thompson played in four NHL games for the Bruins. He has been with the team’s AHL

B-Mets Fall In Series Opener

Caleb Stewart homered, but the Akron Aeros scored three times with two outs for a 5-1 win over the Binghamton Mets at Canal Park Friday. Binghamton has lost two in a row.

B-Mets (55-51) lefthander Michael Antonini retired the first five to face him in his Double-A debut before allowing three straight to reach with two out in the second, with Brandon Pinckney driving in a run with a bloop single. Antonini (0-1) allowed a leadoff homer to Josh Rodriguez in the third before Jose Constanza tripled in a run and scored on a wild pitch in the fourth for a 4-0 Akron lead.
